At 10:15 a.m., Judah Samet, Holocaust survivor, will speak with students during an assembly offered by the Holocaust Museum of Pittsburgh. At age 7, Samet was placed on a train that was rerouted from Auschwitz, Poland, to Bergen-Belsen, Germany, where he spent more than 10 months in a prisoner-of-war camp that later became a concentration camp.
In the afternoon, students will watch and reflect on the local documentary film, From Pittsburgh to Poland, which chronicles the return of three Holocaust survivors from Pittsburgh who return to Eastern Europe 60 years later.
