Mars Area Middle School and Glade Run Lake Conservancy will hold a “Trout Release Day” from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Glade Run Lake (Valencia, Pa.).
Activities will include student-led fishing demonstrations and water chemical testing; a microinvertebrate search; and various information tables. In addition, trout will be released beginning at 10 a.m.
Note: The “Trout Release Day” event is open to the entire Mars Area community. Students, their families, and community members are welcome to attend.
The event is the culmination of the school’s “Trout in the Classroom” cold water conservation education program, which offers students an opportunity to raise brook trout from eggs to fingerlings in a classroom aquarium. The program, provided through a partnership with the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited and Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, incorporates the subjects of ecology, environmental science, chemistry and mathematics and makes connections with other areas of the curriculum.
