A team of Mars Area Middle School students competed in the 2019 Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Middle School Science Bowl, held March 2 at Community College of Allegheny County — South Campus (West Mifflin, Pa.).

The team of eighth-graders Naiya Patel, Cole Winstead and Madeline Wolf (captain); and seventh-graders Nameer Dheen and Mitchell Kulfan tied for third place in preliminary round of the Division B competition. The students, who competed against 32 teams from local middle schools, were asked questions related to biology, chemistry, earth & space, energy, mathematics and physics.
