Several Mars Area High School students were named winners in the “Meet the Mars Challenge,” held as part of the 2019 Mars New Year Celebration (May 31-June 2).
In the Grades 2-4 Division, third-graders Isaac Unruh and Lauren Rozman earned first and second place, respectively, in the Mechanical Category. Third-grader Chase Rath took first place and fourth-grader Sophia Gourash received second place in the Survival Category.
In the Grades 5-6 Division, sixth-grader Carson Mahan took third place in the Mechanical Category and fifth-grader David Renner received the Spirit-of-the-Mars-Challenge Award. In the Grades 7-8 Division, eighth-grader Lindsey Gourash earned first place in the Relationship Category; and seventh-grader Reva Kalbhor took first place in the Survival Category.
The “Meet the Mars Challenge” is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) competition that asks participants to address a specific challenge or need that may be faced in the colonization of Mars.
