A team of Mars Area Middle School students competed in the 2020 Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Middle School Science Bowl, held Feb. 29 at Community College of Allegheny County — South Campus (West Mifflin, Pa.).

The team of eighth-graders Declan Abbey, Nameer Dheen (captain), Mitchell Kulfan and Aidan Teboul, and seventh-grader Carson Mahon tied for third place in the Division A (Amazon) competition with an overall record of 3-2-2. The students, who competed against 32 teams from local middle schools, were asked questions related to biology, chemistry, earth & space, energy, mathematics and physics.
