Middle School Students Compete in Academic Games

Several Mars Area Middle School students competed in the AGLOA (Academic Games League of America) “World Events” Games, held Feb. 19 at Slippery Rock University.

The “Mars Fighting Planets” team of eighth-graders Charlie Bickel, Mitchell Kulfan, Adam Rohrbaugh and Peyton Varrenti and seventh-grader Ella Nicotra earned second place in Current Events game, which covered the topics: People in the News, Sports, Entertainment, Disasters, Science/Technology and Business/Economy. The team also took third place in the Theme game, which focused on the Supreme Court.

In individual competition, eighth-grader Charlie Bickel placed in the Top 10 percent in Current Events. Other participants were eighth-graders Declan Abbey, Cecelia Crowley, Nameer Dheen, Addison Girdwood and Mira Ramanathan; and seventh-graders Ryan Babeo, Kendall Bruns, Addison Nailler and Natasha Narasimhan.
