Three Mars Area Middle School students placed in the 2020-2021 Pennsylvania Mathematics League Contest.
The school’s seventh grade earned a combined score of 117 and placed 10th overall (out of 28 schools) and fourth among schools in the Pittsburgh region. Seventh-grader Naveen Jayaraman tied for 40th place with a score of 25; and, seventh-grader Eli Thoman tied for 43rd place (24).
In eighth grade competition, the school placed 14th overall (out of 29 schools) with a score of 96 and fourth among Pittsburgh region schools. Eighth-grader Patrick Miko earned 29th place with a score of 25.
Earlier this year, all Mars Area Middle School seventh- and eighth-graders entered the contest by completing a 30-minute, timed exam in their math classes. The goal of the annual contest is to encourage student interest and confidence in mathematics through solving worthwhile problems.
