Two teams of Mars Area Middle School students competed in the 2022 Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Middle School Science Bowl, held virtually on March 5.

The Blue Team, made up of eighth-graders Levi Jackson, Naveen Jayaraman and Kaden Ostapchenko and seventh-grader James Foster, advanced to the second elimination round and took eighth place. The Gold Team of eighth-graders Santiago Beltran, Gianna Goodman and Peter Wells and seventh-graders Clara Lukasiak and Grace Nam joined in the first round of the event.

The students, who competed against 27 teams from local middle schools, were asked questions related to biology, chemistry, earth & space, energy, mathematics and physics.
