MAMS Sixth Grade/New Student Transition Information

During the Week of April 18, all Sixth Grade Students attended a presentation, offered by Todd Kolson, Mars Area Middle School principal, and Tanis Rose, guidance counselor, where they were proivided with important middle school information and a tour the middle school.

In addition, all students received a Schedule Request Form as well as directions on how to access the Course Selection Manual and the Supply List for the 2022-2023 School Year (available online at https://middleschool.marsk12.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=799454&type=d&pREC_ID=1413618). If your child was absent or if you are interested in the information, a recorded presentation is provided below:

After watching the recorded presentation, you will notice many other documents that are important to review on the school webpage.  Please review the following:

Course Selection Manual – Describes course offerings, policy/procedures, and activities/sports at the middle school.

Schedule Request Form – All Sixth Grade Students received a Schedule Request Form when they visited the middle school.  The completed form must be returned to their Sixth Grade classroom teacher by no later than Friday, April 29.

Scheduling Basics – This document was put together to help you understand the course requirements for a schedule at the middle school.  Scheduling Basics is a six-page document that includes the following:

    • 9 Period Schedule
    • Course Term Lengths
    • Required Course Schedule
    • Elective Courses
    • Scheduling Scenarios
    • English Language Arts and Mathematics Prerequisites

It is important to note that students must meet all course prerequisites for English Language Arts and Mathematics advanced course placements.  Individual teacher requests are not permitted.

After you have read the Course Selection Manual, Schedule Request Form, and Scheduling Basics, we will need you to determine if your son/daughter would like to enroll in Band, Chorus and/or Orchestra and/or Arts Rotation.  You can select one, two or all three music classes!  Please place a check mark next to the classes you want at the top of the Schedule Request Form.  All students are advised to schedule all music elective courses carefully.  Students may drop the course within the first 10 days of the school year with the written permission of a parent/guardian.  After the first 10 days, students will remain committed to the course and complete all course requirements for the remainder of the school year.
