Mars Area Middle School eighth-graders Cecilia Christy and Sean Franklin were selected to receive The American Legion Award for the 2021-2022 School Year. 

The award is presented to eighth-graders who exhibit the highest standards of scholarship, leadership, patriotism, service, courage, honor and integrity. Each school year, teachers nominate students for the recognition; and, all eighth-graders are asked to vote for one boy and one girl from the list of nominees.

Other nominees included eighth-graders Ava Anderson, Julian Coquelet, Jaxon Hittle, Elizabeth Kelly, Olivia Miller, Jacob Pietrusinski, Nico Salvini, Elijah Stasiowski, Kiara Van Wyk and Clarke Wickland.
