The main entrance to the Mars Area Middle School campus is now located along Davidson Road at its intersection with Meredith Drive.
The new driveway, which will serve as the primary access to the Mars Area Middle School campus and Mars Athletic Complex, was relocated to accommodate PennDOT’s planned widening of Route 228 and the realignment of the roadway’s intersection with Three Degree Road. The PennDOT project will necessitate the closure of the current entrance to the Middle School campus along Three Degree Road.
The District, working in cooperation with Adams Township, has also put in place several additional restrictions that will affect traffic exiting the Middle School campus. Moving forward, vehicles will not be permitted to make left turns from the Middle School parking areas onto Three Degree Road. Instead, vehicles, planning to access Three Degree Road, will need to do so via the new driveway and Davidson Road. The right-in/right-out along Route 228 will remain in place; however, that access point may be restricted, when construction on Route 228 begins.
In addition, parents/guardians, who drop off or pick up their child(ren) at Mars Area Middle School, are asked to note that the Student Drop-Off Area is now located at the front of the building, near the Mars Athletic Complex entrance in a similar location to the Student Pick-Up Area. Parents/guardians will no longer be able to drop off students on the Three Degree Road side of the building.
As a reminder, Mars Area Middle School’s Student Drop-Off begins at 7:15 a.m. and ends at 7:40 a.m. Students must be in their homerooms by 7:45 a.m. Students, who are dropped off, will exit their vehicles near the school’s athletic entrance, then walk to the main entrance or the athletics entrance to enter the building.
The Student Pick-Up Area will be available from 2 to 2:40 p.m. All students are dismissed from school at 2:24 p.m. Students, who are being picked up, will exit the building via the athletics entrance and then proceed to their vehicles. All parents/guardians are reminded that, during afternoon dismissal, no vehicles will be permitted to exit the Middle School campus until all school buses have departed.
Signage, guiding vehicle to Mars Area Middle School’s main access driveway and addressing all new traffic restrictions, has been erected and staff members will be posted around the school’s campus to assist with directing traffic at the start of the school year.
Mars Area School District is continually working to enhance traffic safety at all of our school buildings.
