Two teams of Mars Area Middle School students competed in the 2023 Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Middle School Science Bowl, held virtually on March 4.

The team of eighth-graders James Foster, Nolan Horvath and Conner Liu and seventh-grader Jeffrey Irwin advanced to the first elimination round and finished in 12th place. Team member Preston Musser, seventh-grader, was unable to participate in the competition.

The team of eighth-graders Sophia Gourash, Brett Kelly, Ava Moravek and Grace Nam advanced to the second elimination round and took seventh place. 

The students, who competed against teams from local middle schools, were asked questions related to biology, chemistry, earth & space, energy, mathematics and physics.
