Several Mars Area Middle School students competed in the 2023 Youngstown State University English Festival, held April 21.
In the Trivia event, eighth-grader Alexis Abbey earned first place; eighth-graders Lily Cicconi and Sophia Furman took second place and seventh-grader Isabelle Tang received an honorable mention.
In the Limericks competition, eighth-graders Amanda Morrison and Alexa Knowlton each earned first place. In the Impromptu Writing contest, eighth-grader Alexis Abbey earned second place and eighth-grader Mei Lien Mansfield and seventh-grader Reese Polito each received an honorable mention.
Eighth-grader Claire Norris took third place and eighth-grader Grace Nam received an honorable mention in the Writing Games. Seventh-graders Riley Long and Sage Mahan received honorable mentions in the Jeremy Salvner Music Competition.
Other participants included eighth-graders Reagan Dunn, Sophia Gourash, Mackenzie Ivanchan, Adriana Montesano, Ava Moravek, Amanda Morrison, and Elaina Riegler.
The annual event, open to students in Grades 7-12, welcomes of students from schools in Western Pennsylvania and Ohio and is meant to promote and cultivate reading and writing.
