Two teams of Mars Area Middle School students competed in the 2024 Western Pennsylvania High School Science Bowl, held March 2 at Community College of Allegheny County — South Campus.

“The Mendels” Team of eighth-graders Maddie Lee, Daniel Lopez and Mahin Ugle, and seventh-graders Aarya Raut and Lizzy Shaha, took second place in Division Four. The “Periodic Power” Team of eighth-graders Beckett Front, Jeffrey Irwin and Preston Musser and seventh-graders Diana Wells and Daniel Matz received third place in Division Four.

The students, who competed against teams from local middle schools, were asked questions related to biology, chemistry, earth & space, energy, mathematics and physics.
