Mars Area Middle School seventh-graders are joining in a special challenge to supplement their chemistry lessons.
In their science classes, the students are learning about the different regions of the periodic table — metals, non-metals and metalloids — as well as about how to use the atomic number to identify elements such as alkali metals, halogens and noble gases.
Seventh-graders are also completing a “Alien Periodic Table Challenge,” through which they must identify misnamed elements discovered on an alien planet and locate where those elements would be found on an alien periodic table. The students are then analyzing the alien periodic table to review what they have learned.
