Mars Area Middle School eighth-graders John Fratto and Sarah Hooper were awarded American Legion certificates at the school’s annual Eighth Grade Recognition Ceremony on June 5.

The award is presented to one eighth grade boy and girl who serve as role models in the areas of integrity, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service.

Teachers nominate students for the recognition. Other nominees were eighth-graders Ava Black, Zach Campagna, Lauren Gayle, Audrey Gehm, Anuj Kaul, Eliza Matusek, Max Solich and Eli Wright.
