Several Mars Area Middle School students competed in the Academic Games League of America (AGLOA) Current Events academic competition, held Jan. 25.
Seventh-grader Bryce Zatchey earned second place and seventh-grader Julian Coquelet tied for fifth place in the Currents Events game; and, Coquelet took fourth place in the World Events competition. Other participating students were eighth-graders Ella Nicotra; and seventh-graders Sarah Arnold, Sarah Buttyan, Victoria Caringola, Samantha Knieriem, Grace McCarty and Addison Pangonis.
The students participated in two question and answer rounds — a Lightning Round focused on the topics: People in the News, Sports, Entertainment, Disasters, Science/Technology, and Business/Economy; and, a Wager Round, which asked questions related to National News, International News, National Politics, and International Politics.
The competition, open to students in Grade 4-12, brought together 49 students from Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. For more information, visit www.agloa.org/current-events/.
