Several Mars Area Middle School and Mars Area Centennial School students competed in the Academic Games League of America (AGLOA) Presidents academic competition, held Jan. 13 at Slippery Rock University.
Eighth-grader Julian Coquelet went undefeated and earned the second highest score in the 7/8 Division. Other participants included eighth-graders Grace McCarty, Clarke Wickland and Bryce Zatchey; seventh-graders Brett Kelly, Jackson Kotula and Luke Reinhart; sixth-graders Jackson Everhart, Asher Pesanka, Joao Junqueira-Pinto and Jacob Shebek; and, fifth-graders Olivia Airgood, Blake Brewer, Madison Cawley, Grant Dunn, Avery Harrison, Parker Joseph, Mateus Morgueta, Andrew Sherwin and Luka Zatchey.
Presidents, a question and response game, develops students’ understanding of the personalities, historical contexts, political decisions, and other events surrounding Presidents of the United States. The annual competition is open to students in Grade 4-12 at Butler, Lawrence and Mercer county schools.
