Mars Area Middle School Hockey Team #2 was named the 12U A Champions after defeating the Penn-Trafford Warriors 3-2 in overtime in the final game of the 2022 Scholastic League Playoffs on March 11.

The Fightin’ Planets advanced to the championship final after defeating the Avonworth Antelopes 9-3 in the semifinal round on March 8. The team ended the regular season with an overall record of 13-1-1, earning in first place in the Alpha League. 

Team members include seventh-graders James Foster and Brayden Hall; sixth-graders Luke Andre, Ian Barbeau, Luke Buttermore, Brennan Dasilva, William Daw IV, Gino Goodman, Carter Kohnen, Finn McManigle, Garrett Myers, Tyler Painter, Rocco Piccirilli, Max Pitkins, Anderson Santa, Alexander Schaffner, Roman Trombulak, Samuel Ussack, Alexander Van Horn, Tyler Whitling and Matthew Wilczynski; and fifth-graders Zachary Berger, Jacob Brock, Colby Doner, Henry Fuesting and Jackson Reinard.
