Mars Area Middle School student-athletes, (from left) Kinley Manges, Evan Lewis, Norah Sondej, Scott Kelly, Stella Furman and Luke Dawson, placed in the Top 10 of the 2024 MAC Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country Championships. Mars Area Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams each took first place overall in the 2024 MAC Middle School Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 9 at Brush Creek Park.

The boys team received first place with a score of 49 and total clock time of 1:03:49.5. In individual competition, eight-grader Scott Kelly took second place with a time of (11:45.20); eighth-grader Luke Dawson, seventh place (12:39.20), eighth-grader Evan Lewis, eighth place (12:52.90); eighth-grader Justin Thomas, 13th place (13:09.21); eighth-grader Bryce Mitro, 19th place (13:23.00); eighth-grader Graham Maringer, 25th place (13:36.20); eighth-grader Rocco Bernardini, 31st place (13:47.20); eighth-grader Tanner Hunt, 34th place (13:56.00); seventh-grader Luca Mirabile, 44th place (14:05.70); seventh-grader Robert Miles Spaulding, 52nd place (14:14.40); seventh-grader Jay Schlie, 54th place (14:19.40); and eighth-grader Cade Christy, 56th place (14:24.90).

The girls team took first place with a score of 46 and total clock time of 1:12:51.1. Individually, seventh-grader Norah Sondej took earned second place with a time of 13:33.52; eighth-grader Stella Furman, seventh place (14:35.61); eighth-grader Kinley Manges, ninth place (14:42.09); eighth-grader Ella George, 15th place (14:59.05); eighth-grader Monica Grunden, 17th place (15:00.89); seventh-grader Mackenzie Allshouse, 18th place (15:02.81); seventh-grader Mary Rhenish, 26th place (15:33.10); eighth-grader Londyn Denk, 27th place (15:39.35); seventh-grader Makayla Kinneer, 39th place (16:06.82); eighth-grader Madison Young, 43rd place (16:10.48); eighth-grader Kate Chomicki, 52nd place (16:39.67); and seventh-grader Avery Babeo, 58th place (17:01.01).

2023 Middle School Cross Country MAC Championship

Several members of Mars Area Middle School Cross Country Teams competed in the 2023 Middle School Cross Country MAC Championship, held Oct. 11 at Settler’s Cabin Park.

The girls team took fourth place overall with an average time of 14:27. Eighth-grader Katie Kasper took 10th place with a time of 13:55; seventh-grader Kinley Manges, 13th place (14:08); seventh-grader Ella George, 15th place (14:11); seventh-grader Londyn Denk, 23rd place (14:43); seventh-grader Isabella Mascari, 42nd place (15:19); seventh-grader Monica Grunden, 43rd place (15:22); seventh-grader Nila Van Wyk, 47th place (15:30); seventh-grader Madison Young, 48th place (15:31); seventh-grader Kate Chomicki, 69th place (16:32); seventh-grader Amaya Benninger, 73rd place (16:57); eighth-grader Natalie Hagen, 78th place (17:44); and, seventh-grader Tumaris Yalkun, 82nd place (18:31).

The boys team earned third place overall with an average time of 12:14. 2022 Junior High Cross Country MAC Championships

Mars Area Middle School eighth-graders Raphael Bencun, Hailey Long, Lucy Balazs, Sam Argotti and Max Argotti took top spots at the 2022 Junior High Cross Country MAC Championships.Mars Area Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country Team both earned first place at the 2022 Junior High Cross Country MAC Championships, held Oct. 12 at Settler’s Cabin State Park.

The boys team took first place overall with 103 points and an average time of 12:06. Individually, eighth-grader Sam Argotti took second place with a time of 11:15; eighth-grader Raphael Bencun, fourth place (11:21); eighth-grader Max Argotti, fifth place (11:32); eighth-grader Jacob Maze, 37th place (12:49); eighth-grader Jackson Kotula, 55th place (13:43); eighth-grader Luke Bowser, 58th place (13:56); eighth-grader Aiden Gloystein, 61st place (13:59); and seventh-grader Preston Musser, 70th place (14:30)

The girls team earned first place overall with 52 points and an average time of 3:37. Individually, eighth-grader Hailey Long claimed first place with a time of 11:49; eighth-grader Lucy Balazs, sixth place (13:26); eighth-grader Emma Ladesic, (13th place (14:05); eighth-grader Reese Connelly, 14th place (14:17); eighth-grader Brynn Williams, 18th place (14:28); eighth-grader Hannah Utz, 20th place(14:41); seventh-grader Katie Kasper, 41st place (15:22); eighth-grader Madelyn Peterson, 41st place (15:28); eighth-grader Jenna Smith, 44th place (15:50); and, eighth-grader Julia Lego, 47th place (16:34).

2022 North Allegheny Middle School Cross Country Invitational

Hailey Long, Max Argotti and Sam ArgottiThree members of Mars Area Middle School Boys and Girls Cross Country Team placed in the North Allegheny Middle School Cross Country Invitational, held Oct. 11 at Marshall Middle School.

On the girls team, eighth-grader Hailey Long took first place with a time of 11:32.24, defeating 209 runners from 20 middle schools and earning the sixth fastest course time.

On the boys team, eighth-grader Sam Argotti took 27th place (11:45.82) and eighth-grader Max Argotti received 30th place (11:53.25). More than 280 runners compete in the boys race.
