How to be a Successful Middle School Student

We view Middle School as a Secondary School setting where expectations are higher for personal responsibility regarding learning and behavior. This is a time of new freedoms and independence. We expect students to struggle with organization, time management, new academic skills and even friends as they grow and develop into young adults. Only through these struggles will they develop self-confidence and self-esteem by working through and mastering these challenges and acquiring these new skills.

All teachers and staff at Mars Area Middle School are here to assist you and your child through this journey from the Elementary School child to becoming a young adult. Communication between home and school is critical for success. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your child’s teacher first, then the counselor or the principal. We encourage you to monitor Skyward regularly for student progress and grades. Additionally, students and teachers will use Schoology, as their daily learning management system for assignments, class calendars, classroom collaboration and teacher emails. We look to you to help provide structure at home including set homework/study times and bedtime. Students should use their planner daily so they know what homework they have nightly and what tests/quizzes are coming up that week. Students need to start every day with a good breakfast. Lastly, students need to be in school. If your son/daughter is in school, all teachers and staff will make sure that he/she is receiving the very best education that will prepare them not only for high school, but a sound foundation for their future.
