Before a student-athlete may participate in Mars Area sports, he/she must register for the sport on the District website under Family ID and have a physical exam. Student-athletes must also pay the designated athletic participation fee and submit all physical forms to the school nurse/guidance secretary PRIOR to the start of the season.  Check the Mars website for detailed instructions.

Mars Area School District charges a $100 Athletic Participation Fee per student per sport. (e.g. If a student participates in three sports, for example, the fee will be $300.) There is no per student or family cap. Note: Students eligible for free or reduced price school meals will have their fees waived. No athlete will be permitted to practice without a completed, submitted physical, form and fee paid.

Mars Area School District District Policy 227.1 Random Drug Testing, to aid in creating an alcohol and drug-free setting for all students and District employees. The policy, an extension of the District’s substance use/abuse policy, applies to all students in Grades 7-12 who opt to participate on any interscholastic athletic team, in a paid extracurricular activity, or who are issued a parking permit. Prior to the beginning of the new school year and/or at the beginning of each sport season, or when a student moves into the District and plans to join a sport or paid activity or applies for a parking permit, the student and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) will be required to complete and sign a “Drug Testing Consent Form”.

How does my child sign up to participate in school-sponsored sports?

During the school year coaches hold meetings in school, prior to the start of each sports season. Times and dates of all meetings are announced to students in each school building. Please check the Mars website or contact the Athletic Office at (724) 625-9380 with any questions you have regarding dates and times of any upcoming sports or if you are in need of additional information.
